This prestigious award, presented by the National Association of the Remodeling Industry (NARI), recognizes our standout project at 1508 Alpine Pass—a breathtaking custom staircase transformation that has redefined luxury home remodeling in Minnesota.

A Staircase That Redefines the Heart of the Home
This project began with a bold vision from our clients: transform two outdated staircases—one leading upstairs, the other down—into a single, centrally located masterpiece that would serve as the functional and aesthetic centerpiece of their home. For years, they had dreamed of a space that felt open, allowed natural light to flood in, and improved the flow of their multilevel residence. As a premier Minnesota custom builder, we were thrilled to take on the challenge and deliver a remodel that exceeded their expectations.
The original layout featured two separate staircases awkwardly positioned in different areas of the home, disrupting the flow and closing off natural light. Our solution? A complete reimagination. We built a custom staircase that spans all three floors, strategically centered to unify the home’s design. Large new windows were installed to bathe the space in light, while open treads and a striking slat wall created an airy, modern feel. Every detail—from the custom red oak treads stained to match the floors to the sleek white metal railings topped with a handcrafted oak cap—was meticulously planned and executed.
Here’s a breakdown of the work we poured into this award-winning transformation:
Structural Innovation: We removed the two old staircases, reframing and reinforcing the structure with beams to support a new, centrally located staircase. This required precision engineering to seamlessly connect three floors while maintaining the home’s integrity.
Custom Craftsmanship: Floating red oak stair treads were custom-built and secured with steel “L” brackets for a modern, open look. Large enamel-finished beams served as stringers, paired with a poplar slat wall painted in crisp white enamel for a bold contrast.
Enhanced Flow and Light: New oversized windows now flood the center of the home with natural light, while the open staircase design improves traffic flow through the main level and beyond.
Timeless Aesthetics: The combination of stained red oak, enamel white trim, and custom metal railings creates a sophisticated, enduring style that complements the rest of the home.
Overcoming Challenges with Expertise
No remodel comes without its hurdles, and this project was no exception. One of the biggest challenges was structurally reworking two separate staircases into a single, cohesive design. We had to frame through the old openings, add support beams, and finish the areas above and below the former staircases—all while ensuring the new staircase felt like it had always belonged there. Temporary supports were used to frame the staircase across three floors, requiring careful coordination and a keen eye for detail.
