Modern Condo
Urban high-rise living often presents a design paradox: the desire for sleek, modern sophistication versus the need for organic comfort. In this downtown condo, the existing architecture was defined by sharp angles and polished surfaces—a high-end aesthetic that risked feeling detached. The objective was to soften this industrial edge by introducing a deliberate, natural counterpoint, seamlessly melding contemporary precision with the grounding texture of the outdoors to create a residence that is as welcoming as it is modern.
The centerpiece of this transformation is the cedar canopy, a sophisticated drop ceiling
crafted from Dolly Varden Cedar Panels. Utilizing clear vertical grain cedar, the installation immediately bathes the living room in a rich, amber warmth that balances the home’s modern lines. To elevate the atmosphere, a dual-layer lighting system was integrated: hidden perimeter LEDs cast ethereal washes of yellow, blue, and violet above the wood, while delicate recessed fixtures within the panels provide functional, intimate light below. The result is a stunning architectural feature that anchors the room, drawing the focus to the gathering space with an unmistakable sense of “home.”
The primary bedroom received a similar cedar canopy, and brought a similar palette of colors into the bedroom suite. The primary bathroom was also remodeled and became a sleek sanctuary - with navy subway tiles, white walls and LED ceiling lighting.
